Dry milling and classification of sugar

Sugar is a sweet-tasting substance extracted mainly from sugar cane or sugar beet. It is an important component of our daily carbohydrate intake. Important industrial properties of food products containing sugar are flow properties, appearance, solubility, dust content and taste.

Depending on the level of purity required, sugar is clarified and crystallised repeatedly. In addition to coarse sugar, crystal sugar, used in domestic and industrial applications, requires the finest form of sugar, e.g. powdered sugar. This fine sugar is obtained by mechanically grinding crystal sugar with modern impact mills.
