The POITTEMILL Control laboratory is equipped with measuring devices designed to characterize the physical properties of the raw materials to be treated from samples provided by our customers. Pre-project indexes such as humidity content, HGI and Work Indexes are determined according to standardized procedures (ISO 5074 for the Hardgrove grindability Index).

After the tests have been concluded, the fine particles resulting from the grinding or selection are analysed in order to establish the particle size distribution curves.

Particle size testing methods :

  • Standardized sieves (AFNOR, ASTM),
  • Mechanical sifter,
  • Suction sifter,
  • SEDIGRAPH X-ray particle size measurer,
  • COULTER particle size measurer.

In order to establish a close working relationship with their customers, POITTEMILL and FORPLEX compile the maximum amount of information about the products to be treated, notably that concerning the microscopic structure that may influence behaviour under grinding or selection (lamellar structure, spheroid or oolitic structure, tendancy to clog and specific risks liked to the product – ATEX, toxicity, corrosiveness ...).

POITTEMILL and FORPLEX have compiled a significant amount of knowledge about the wide range of products already tested in the Control centre. The company has a database containing thousands of tested products, each one listed with the different particle sizes obtained and the corresponding type of grinding equipment.
